Hartley, IA - Interested in learning about cemetery preservation?  Do you know of a family cemetery or a cemetery that has been abandoned and would like to learn how to preserve it for future generations?  Plan to attend Rural Preservation Partners Cemetery Preservation Workshop.  This workshop will be held at the Steuck Prairie Land Cemetery outside Hartley, IA.  This is a Saturday activity for the whole family. Rain date will be set for the Spring/Summer 2008.

We will begin with a brief talk about the family that settled the area; then talk about the prairie plants; and finally work on preservation activities, which will include trimming a few trees and around headstones; mapping the headstones; and conducting headstone chalk rubbings.  Suggested clothing: work pants, long sleeved shirts, rain gear, gloves, hat, and sunscreen.  Also if you have any of these tools please feel free to bring them: weed whip, wire cutter, and broom.  Please bring plenty of water!!

Registration is a suggested $5.00 donation and the registration and release form on the reverse side.  Mail to registration to the Iowa Lakes RC&D, Attn: Cemetery Preservation-Preservation Education Workshop, PO Box 265, Spencer, IA 51301 or bring with you the day of.
