Community Survey
The main standard I
had to compare the pre-community survey to the
post-community survey results were survey sheets
that the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO)
had on file for most, but not all the communities.
To my knowledge and based on the information that
was received from SHPO, this was the first time that
the communities of Cornell, Greenville, Langdon,
Rossie and Webb were surveyed.
Previously, 222
resources in Clay County were identified with the
State Historic Preservation Office. Following this
survey, I identified 359 resources. Additionally, I
would also propose that the community of Peterson
completes an intensive survey of the area. The
results from the reconnaissance survey suggests that
one if not two districts could exist in Peterson.
The city of
Spencer should also further investigate the possible
residential districts, particularly for North Grand
Avenue. Furthermore, since the City of Spencer has
an Historic Preservation Commission the commission
may want to highlight the houses that best represent
particular styles of architecture in the community.
This may also serve as a starting point for a house
tour and potential local landmark property list.
